Q: How long have you been involved with The Open Group?

I have been following The Open Group for many years at a distance through interest in IT strategy and TOGAF®.  The recent release of IT4IT™ has made membership more compelling for my team.

    Q. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

I’m CEO and Lead Exec advisor for ValueFlow IT.  I’ve been an IT Management Consultant since the late 1990s.

Q: Why did your organization become a member and what does your involvement look like?  What forum did your organization join?

IT4IT offers great value for our IT Operating Model clients and we wanted to be able to deliver consulting and training services.  I am personally looking to get involved in the working groups around IT4IT.  I know Charlie Betz quite well and believe that I can bring some useful perspectives given my ITIL/ITSM background and recent forays into DevOps.

Q: How has membership in The Open Group benefited you, your organization and the industry at large?

Historically, I’ve found TOGAF a very useful contribution to the strategy & architecture advisory work my team does.  However, the quality and depth of the IT4IT standard takes The Open Group to another level for my customers.  IT4IT is a very important framework that can create a fabric for the disparate components for the IT Operating Model.

Q: What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group?

Myself and team can bring real depth to the Operating Model discussions.  We have developed some leading thinking that can help build IT4IT toward a Digital Operating Model.  I’d hope to work with Charlie Betz and others on this.

Q: Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group?

The Open Group is the body that can lead the next wave of IT management thinking.  There are a lot of great thinkers coming together and it is time to up the cadence and keep pace with the rate of technology change.  Other standards & frameworks bodies are struggling due to too much inertia.  The Open Group can transcend this a show real leadership

    Q: What are your hobbies?

Rock/Blue guitar, Moto Trials and Reading.

Q: What book are you currently reading?

I have many on the go! I have a pre-release copy of the DevOps Handbook by Gene Kim et al.  That is looking great

    Q.  What social networks do you belong to?

    Most!

    Q: Any last thoughts?

I believe that The Open Group is the body where the next generation of non-propritary thinking will come from.  I’m keen to be part of making that happen.
