Q: How long have you been involved with The Open Group FACE™ Consortium?  I have been involved in the FACE Consortium for nearly 2 years. I started off going to many of the Business Working Group (BWG) subcommittees and in June 2017 was elected as the Vice Chair of the BWG. I am really looking forward to my new role of Vice Chair of the BWG where I will have a greater chance to drive The Open Group FACE Technical Standard and Business Strategy into global solutions.

Q. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?  I am a Program Manager at Rockwell Collins in the Advanced Airborne Portfolio. I have been in this group for 2 years and at Rockwell Collins for 14 years. I started off in engineering and moved to Subcontracts Program Management before my current role.

Q: Why did your organization become a member of the The Open Group FACE™ Consortium and what does your involvement look like?

Rockwell Collins has been a provider of open architecture products since the early 2000s, and our organization recognized that the FACE initiative was the next step in advancing open standards. It was a no brainer to become a sponsor member, bring a large team of contributors to each meeting, and bring to market the first FACE Conformant Certified products. 

Q: How has membership in The Open Group FACE™ Consortium benefited you, your organization and the industry at large?  Rockwell Collins has benefited from the additional business that has come from adopting the FACE Standard in our products, and also from the increased efficiency the Standard has provided to our internal development teams. Although not fully developed yet, I see the industry beginning to reap benefits from the opening of new market areas created by the introduction of portable and reusable software.

Q: What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group FACE™ Consortium?  The Consortium has recently published FACE Technical Standard 3.0. Now we are focused on executing the next five year strategic plan. With my Program Management project execution background, I am excited to bring forward my project management skill-sets.

Q: Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group FACE™ Consortium?  With the number of members and quality of members, we are ensuring we get the best standard for all stakeholders. Other organization should join the FACE Consortium to ensure their voice is heard in the development of the FACE Standard.

Q: What are your hobbies? I really enjoy being outdoors and doing gardening, running, hiking, biking, canoeing, etc.

Q: What book are you currently reading? Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen and The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor.

Margaret Horsfield is a Program Manager at Rockwell Collins in Advanced Airborne Solutions portfolio. Her main responsibilities include FACE™ Applications, Cyber, Joint-Multi Role, and Future Vertical Lift. She has diverse experiences leading complex developments and systems integrations in a matrix organization and across multiple business units both domestically and internationally.

Margaret holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from Wartburg College and a Master in Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa.
