  • Director, Philips IT

How long have you been involved with The Open Group?

I have been involved with The Open Group for eight months. However, Philips as a company has been involved much longer with The Open Group. Philips is a platinum member of The Open Group since 2013 and a Gold member for many years before that upgrade.

What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

I head the global Digital Practice, which is responsible for building state of the art IT platforms to enable the digital transformation that is underway at Philips.

Why did your organization become a member and what does your involvement look like?

Philips believes in investing in competence development of their staff. With technologies changing faster than the speed of light, it was important to have a technology and vendor agnostic framework to assess the competence of the employees and hence The Open Group was chosen. As the Governing Board representative for Philps, I act as the prime contact between The Open Group and Philips and it involves evangelizing The Open Group framework and standards in Philips.

How has membership in The Open Group benefited you, your organization and the industry at large?

Adoption of The Open Group CITS framework has enabled us to benchmark our employees’ capabilities, identify the gaps and support developmental activities to bridge the gap. This has resulted in employees being able to work in critical projects thereby reducing contractor costs. The Open Group standards are more and more being recognized and adopted in the organization. Few examples: TOGAF®, Archimate®, OpenFAIR, IT4IT™. The common standards and frameworks that The Open Group brings also enables the industry to speak one language

What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group?

More active participation of Philips staff in the various workgroups and forums, thereby contributing to developing and popularizing The Open Group Framework and Standards.

Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group?

In the complex world in which we constantly demand faster and better products, it is important to leverage synergies from each other. The Open Group provided an excellent platform to learn from each other. The frameworks and standards also act as a jumpstart kit, which prevents us from re-inventing the wheel.
